How to study in New Zealand from Bangladesh: step-by-step

Plan a New Zealand course, provider, application, budget and Fee Paying Student Visa route from Bangladesh.

Last reviewed 11 October 2026Prepared by Thinkoogram Consultancy Ltd.General guidance—not legal or immigration advice

A New Zealand study plan begins with an appropriate programme at an approved provider, not with a promise about visas or permanent residence. Use this sequence to compare options and understand the admission and immigration stages separately.

01

Choose the qualification and provider type

New Zealand has universities, institutes of technology and polytechnics, and private training establishments. Compare qualification level, course outcomes, location, learner support and provider status.

  • Search programmes through Study with New Zealand.
  • Read the exact course page and international entry requirements.
  • Check provider information through official New Zealand sources.
  • Confirm that the intended intake and campus are available.
02

Match your Bangladesh academic background

The provider assesses whether your previous study and English ability are suitable. HSC applicants may need direct-entry or pathway assessment; postgraduate applicants should compare the subject background and any research or experience requirements.

  • Prepare SSC/HSC or degree certificates and full transcripts.
  • Check prerequisite subjects and minimum results.
  • Confirm whether an English test or approved alternative is accepted.
  • Use a truthful study-gap explanation with evidence where relevant.
03

Plan tuition and living costs in BDT

Use the exact provider fee and the official cost-of-living guidance. Add insurance, visa and health costs, flights, accommodation deposits and a buffer. Convert NZD to BDT using a current bank or authorised-provider rate.

  • Separate the amount required for visa evidence from a realistic personal budget.
  • Do not assume part-time work will fund tuition or all living costs.
  • Check provider scholarships and their continuation conditions.
  • Show a credible funding plan for later years of a multi-year course.
04

Move from an offer of place to visa preparation

Read the offer, fees, conditions and refund rules before accepting. The Fee Paying Student Visa requires an offer from an approved provider and evidence relevant to the application. Immigration New Zealand recommends applying at least three months before intended travel where possible.

  • Follow the live Immigration New Zealand requirements.
  • Prepare genuine financial evidence and translations.
  • Arrange insurance acceptable to the education provider.
  • Keep outward-travel funds separate from living-cost evidence where required.
05

Prepare for arrival only after approval

After a visa is granted, confirm accommodation, airport transport, border declarations, orientation and emergency contacts. Avoid non-refundable bookings before the visa decision.
