Australia or New Zealand: a practical comparison for Bangladeshi students

Compare study fit, course choice, budget, intakes and application steps before choosing Australia or New Zealand.

Neither destination is automatically “better.” The stronger choice is the one with an appropriate course, recognised provider, affordable total budget and a credible reason within your academic and career plans. Use this comparison to decide what to investigate—not to predict admission, employment or migration.

01

Compare the course before the country

List two or three suitable programmes in each destination. Compare modules, assessment, practical learning, entry requirements, duration and provider support. A strong course match is more useful than a broad claim that one country is best.

  • Australia: verify international courses and providers through Study Australia and CRICOS.
  • New Zealand: use Study with New Zealand and official provider information.
  • For both: read the provider’s exact course and refund pages before paying.
02

Intakes and timing

February and July are common starting periods in both destinations, but calendars vary. Australia may use February or March for its main start; New Zealand providers publish programme-specific dates. Begin early enough for English testing, documents, decisions and visa preparation.

03

Build two complete BDT budgets

Compare the same study duration and include every major cost. Tuition headlines alone do not show affordability. Use official cost guidance and the exact provider fee, then convert with the same dated exchange-rate source.

  • Tuition and compulsory provider charges
  • Health or travel insurance
  • Visa and health-related charges
  • Accommodation, food, transport and utilities
  • Flights, deposits and a contingency buffer
04

Understand the different visa processes

Australia uses the Student visa subclass 500 and the Genuine Student requirement. New Zealand’s Fee Paying Student Visa has its own offer, funding, genuine-intention, health, character and insurance requirements. Do not transfer a checklist from one country to the other.

05

A decision framework for your family

  • Which course best builds on the student’s actual academic history?
  • Which total budget remains manageable if exchange rates move?
  • Which city and learning environment suit the student?
  • Can every admission and financial claim be supported honestly?
  • Is there enough time to prepare without rushing or hiding gaps?
